HOW DO I SELECT A MATERNITY PHOTOGRAPHER?
It’s so overwhelming to find a maternity photographer- right? There are so many of them, to choose!
Go with a maternity photographer you can relate to, feel confident with, and of course love their style! It’s really important they have attention to detail and can easily relax you, loosen you up, and make you laugh a little.
Make sure to prioritise the investment, not the price! It’s such a significant milestone in your life and you want these maternity photos to last a lifetime. We love clients that are invested in us, clients price shopping around and after a deal will always miss the finer details that are paramount, especially in the output process.
If budget is an issue chat with your photographer about their payment plans, almost every photographer should have a layby option or finance program. Some of our clients like to pay us monthly before their session has even started, so they have credit to spend at their design consultation.
I always advise clients to read through google reviews too, this gives you an opportunity to know what your pregnancy photographer will be like to work with.

WHEN SHOULD I BOOK MY MATERNITY PHOTOSHOOT?
Short answer- As soon as you remember! We’re a busy studio so it’s essential to have a booking in advance. We like to allow enough time to have a pre-consultation about the type of session you’re after, whether it be indoors at our sunny boutique photography studio, or outdoors in many of our secret magical locations. This is an opportunity to discuss your budget so we can make sure we meet your expectations and our the right fit for your needs.
The best time to have the actual maternity photo shoot with our Auckland pregnancy photographer is when your tummy is visibly round. (normally between 30-34 weeks) You don’t want to leave it too late as sometimes babies arrive early, we may also need to reschedule if it's raining.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
We talk about this at your pre-consultation, this gives you the opportunity to try on all our gowns, and see our beautiful backdrops, artwork, and products. We have many beautiful fabrics to use too. If you’re doing tasteful maternity nudes then you won’t need that much at all! We want you to feel as beautiful and confident as possible. If your partner is joining the session we advise a neutral, organic color palette, white, cream, beige, and jeans or khaki pants.
WHERE CAN I HAVE A LOOK TO BUY MATERNITY DRESSES?
Great question, you can find several amazing dresses with SHEIN, Coven and Co are used quite a bit on our website, Pink Blush, A pea in the Pod. Worth a look on etsy also.
HOW LONG DO THE PREGNANCY SESSIONS TAKE?
Depends on the pregnancy session you’re booking. Our Minis are thirty minutes, whereas our full sessions can go from 1 hour to 1.5 hours. Clients after the full experience usually want a mix of tasteful nudes and a mixture of dresses and backdrops. These clients also have allowed 1.5 hours for their hair and makeup.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING THE SESSION?
Only the best! You’ll be all prepared with the preparation guide sent out prior to your photoshoot. Once the creative juices are flowing and we’ve shown you a photo on the back of the camera you'll be away laughing. Quite often I find this gives you all the confidence you need to feel amazing!
