A Lifestyle Family Photoshoot with Holly, Pete & My Beautiful Godchildren
When it comes to capturing the essence of family, there’s nothing quite like the intimacy of an in-home family photoshoot. As an Auckland family photographer, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing countless beautiful moments unfold, but there’s something truly special about photographing dear friends like Holly and Pete with their adorable children Johnny, Arabella and little Rosa. As the leaves turned golden, signalling the arrival of Easter, I knew it was the perfect time to capture those cherished moments. Autumnal family photoshoots hold a special place in my heart; the colours can be beautiful this time of year.
Walking into Holly and Pete’s family home, I felt a sense of warmth and familiarity. As a perfectionist, I’m always on the hunt for the best lighting and moments to capture. Yes, there’s an element of chaos in every family photoshoot, but that’s what makes it real. Milk spills, tantrum’s happen, kids are unpredictable- but through it all, patience and empathy always win. I’ve learned that going with the flow is key; after all, ‘Expectation is the root of all disappointment’, as Shakespeare so wisely said. I remind all my clients this because I will do whatever it takes to get the shot!
Being entrusted as the godmother to Holly and Pete’s children—Johnny, Arabella, and Rosa—adds an extra layer of joy to the family photos. Johnny who I fondly call Little J, holds a special place in my heart, and when Arabella came along, it felt only natural to extend my godmotherly love to her, followed by Rosa- in the end it became easier to just have them all.
As Arabella nestled into her dad’s arms, I couldn’t help but marvel at the beauty of their bond. It’s moments like these that remind me why I love what I do—to freeze time & capture the love that fills a family’s home.
